Per la prima volta in Cina e nel mondo, un insediamento urbano di nuova generazione. A Liuzhou partono infatti i lavori del Master Plan di Stefano Boeri Architetti per una città che combatte l’inquinamento atmosferico. La Città Foresta, commissionata dal Liuzhou Municipality Urban Planning, sarà terminata entro il 2020, ci saranno uffici, case, alberghi, ospedali, scuole, interamente ricoperti di alberi e piante. Una volta ultimata, la nuova città di 30.000 abitanti sarà in grado ogni anno di assorbire circa 10.000 tonnellate di CO2 e 57 tonnellate di polveri sottili e di produrre circa 900 tonnellate di ossigeno.
Liuzhou Forest City sarà costruita a nord di Liuzhou, nella provincia meridionale e montuosa dello Guangxi, in un’area di circa 175 ettari lungo il fiume Liujiang. La nuova città verde, che sarà totalmente cablata, sarà collegata alla città di Liuzhou da una linea ferroviaria veloce, utilizzata da automobili a motore elettrico e sarà destinata ad ospitare zone residenziali di diversa natura e spazi commerciali e ricettivi, oltre a due scuole e un ospedale.
Liuzhou Forest City disporrà di tutte le caratteristiche di un insediamento urbano pienamente autosufficiente dal punto di vista energetico, a partire dalla geotermia per il condizionamento degli interni e dall’uso diffuso dei pannelli solari sui tetti per la captazione delle energie rinnovabili.
Ma la grande novità del progetto di Stefano Boeri Architetti è la presenza di piante e alberi su tutti gli edifici, di qualunque dimensione e destinazione siano. Nel complesso Liuzhou Forest City ospiterà 40.000 alberi e circa 1 milione di piante di più di 100 specie, spazi vitali per gli uccelli, gli insetti e i piccoli animali che abitano il territorio di Liuzhou.
